Standard cake boxes are around 5 inches deep, which is fine for a single sponge and useless for a two-tier cake or a drip cake with a stacked topper. These are built at 8, 10 and 12 inches deep so the decoration never touches the lid.

Depth brings its own problem: a tall box wants to flex when it is carried. We reinforce the corners with a double-crease fold and add optional corrugated corner posts on the 12 inch version, which stops the walls bowing inward when the box is lifted.

The lid lifts straight off rather than hinging back. On a tall cake that is the difference between a clean reveal and a smeared side, and it also lets a customer photograph the cake before removing it.
